94rd AIKW Conference
The 94th AIKW Conference will take place from September 23-25, 2026, at the Palace Hotel in Desenzano del Garda, Italy.
The venue is located on the southern shore of Lake Garda, has its own train station, and is 30 km from Verona Airport.
Conference
The AIKW is a registered association with the aim of informing its members about current developments in rolling technology and the associated plant technology.
The board of the AIKW works on a voluntary basis and does not receive any remuneration for its work and the organization of the conferences.As the meetings are organized by a small circle of members, it may take some time to respond to inquiries or process business transactions.
Review of the AIKW Conference 2025 in Siegen
The 93rd AIKW Conference took place from September 24-26, 2025, in the Hüttensaal of the Siegerlandhalle in Siegen, Germany, and was well-attended with over 180 participants. To mark the 75th anniversary of our professional association, a review of the historical development of the AIKW since 1950 was presented at the start of the conference. In addition to the roll pass design of square bars, asymmetrical solid sections and rails, the presentations also covered aspects of slitting technology, microstructure development and quality control, as well as energy considerations and the use of hydrogen in the heating of steel.
Evening Event
The evening event, featuring a boat trip on the Lake Biggesee, provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions among the participants.
Factory Tours
The factory tours of various rolling mills (DEW wire rod mill DEW in Hagen, DEW bar mill in Siegen Geisweid, Mannstaedt Werke for special sections in Troisdorf), the roll foundry Walzen Irle GmbH in Netphen and the workshops of SMS in Hilchenbach were well received by the participants.
Objectives
The AIKW is a registered professional organization for roll pass designers and rolling mill engineers with a main emphasis in the field of hot rolled long products. The aim of the Association is to maintain and to deepen the members' skills acquired during theit basic training and subsequent practical work and to promote the exchange of experience between members.
In this respect, regular scientific conferences with presentations on specific topical subjects and plant visits make an important contribution. International speakers are invited to these conferences to give presentations on specific subjects of rolling mill technology and adjacent areas of production engineering, plant engineering and organization.
In addition to members, any interested individual working in the steel industry or in the field of mechanical engineering, plant engineering or in the supplying industry, as well as university and polytechnic students and students from technical and master craftspeople schools may participate in the conferences and visits offered.
The Association is a non-profit organisation and does not pursue own financial interests.

AIKW Membership
Only natural persons working as roll pass designers, engineers, technicians or masters in rolling mills or adjacent fields, regardless of their nationality or affiliation to parties or other associations, may become members of the AIKW.
